HISTORY
Shree
Gauhati Gaushala (erstwhile PINJRAPOLE) was
established at Athgaon, Guwahati on 23rd February,
1916 (Falgun Badi Teej Vikram Samvat, 1972) on a
plot of land measuring 25 Bighas donated by Late
Hukmichandji Ramkrikhdasji
Ajitsaria.
Subsequently, the Gaushala was
expanded and the following plots of land were
either purchased and/or donated by the following
persons :-
3 Bighas 1 Katha 2 Lechas and 3
Bighas 2 Kathas 11 Lechas of land adjoining the
existing plot of land at Athgaon was purchased
from Sri Amarlal Mahanta and Sri Ranglal Nunia
respectively.
In Vikram Samvat 1973, M/s
Lalchand Kaniram Choudhury of Kolkata donated 260
Bighas 1 Katha 5 Lechas of land situated at
Maligaon for growing grass for the cows and to
keep invalid cows in the said
complex.
Again in Vikram Samvat 1976, 90
Bighas 1 Katha 19 Lechas of land situated at
Fatasil was purchased for growing grass for the
cows.
M/s Ramlal Lalchand, Guwahati donated
10 Bighas 2 Kathas 12 Lechas of land situated at
Fatasil for the said Pinjarapole.
MANAGEMENT
Initially, Shree Gauhati
Gaushala was managed by a Working Committee and
Late Shri Nagarmal Kejriwal was appointed Pradhan
Sachiv which he served for many years. Under his
able leadership, the Gaushala started functioning
effectively and grew by leaps and
bounds.
To strengthen the financial
position of Gauhati Gaushala, the local traders of
Guwahati from all castes came forward and assured
to contribute as Vitti Laag on the goods imported
by them from outside the State. As a result, Rs.
8,500/ was received as Vitti Laag and Rs. 16,500/-
was received as special donation in the very first
year.
During those days 120 - 150 ltrs of
milk was produced and distributed to the needy
people on a daily basis and the total cow
population during those days was 400.
At
present, the Working Committee of Shree Gauhati
Gaushala consists of 41 members including 15
Trustees as Ex. Officio Members. The day-to-day
affairs are looked after by the office bearers
consisting of its President, Vice-Presidents,
Secretary, Joint Secretaries and Treasurer who
follow the guidelines issued by the Trust from
time to time. The various Committees formed by the
Working Committee also look after the affairs
specifically entrusted to them.
STAFF & WORKERS
:
The present staff strength of
Shree Gauhati Gaushala is 125 persons which
includes Manager, Asstt. Manager, Accountant and
other office staff and daily
labourers.
There is an in-house kitchen for
providing hygienic food to the staff members of
Shree Gauhati Gaushala.
GOPASTHAMI MELA
:
Gopasthami Mela is organized
every year in a big way for 2 days. Lakhs of
people from all castes, communities& religions
visit Shree Gauhati Gaushala at Athgaon to worship
the holy cow and enjoy the Mela too where
different types of programmes are held.
